Retest etiquette for impatient chart readers

A retest is simply price returning to the broken boundary to see whether former resistance now acts as support — or former support as resistance. Students who hate waiting often invent confirmation from the first strong close alone.

In class we treat retest behaviour as graded, not binary. A shallow kiss of the level with calm volume scores differently from a deep plunge that barely recovers. Writing those grades down stops the journal from recording every survivor as equal.

We also practice naming failed retests early. If price returns and closes back through the boundary with expanding participation, the breakout thesis is under pressure. Delaying that admission usually costs more study clarity than an early revision.

If your temperament cannot tolerate retests, say so on the checklist and tighten the other filters — structure quality, range maturity, and invalidation distance — rather than pretending patience you do not have.
